A Milestone for Conservation and Athletics in the Southern Highlands
The 2026 Kitulo Garden Marathon was a tremendous success and has become the leading eco-tourism athletic event in Tanzania. The event, held on May 2, 2026, in the breathtaking high-altitude terrain of Kitulo National Park in Makete, Njombe, united professional athletes, local tourists and environmental advocates under the rallying cry: “Hifadhi Yetu, Fahari Yetu” (Our Park, Our Pride). The marathon, Organized by Events and Promotions company Ltd, was much more than a test of physical endurance, it was a catalyst for tourism, local investment and community health awareness in the Southern Highlands.

Diverse Race Tiers:
Hosted a highly competitive 21.1K Half Marathon, a grueling 10K Trail Run, and an energetic 5K Fun Run catering to all fitness demographics.
Elite High-Altitude Stage
Runners braved the unique atmospheric challenge of the “Bustani ya Mungu” (God’s Garden) plateau, navigating trails situated over 2,600 meters above sea level.

The influx of international and domestic runners entirely booked out local regional hospitality sectors, unlocking vital tourism and commercial opportunities for the Njombe Region.
